Dance Background

Dancing was my first love. I started dancing much later in comparison to the average dancer and it took a little while to make the sport my passion. However, I have since grown in so many ways because of this art form.

I began dancing in 2014 when I was around 11 years old on a local dance team. Even now, I have never taken formal lessons. All of my experience comes from either my dance teams, drop in choreography classes, and online sources. My first year on the team was rough. I struggled a lot to make cuts, and I wasn't very good at dancing. Despite my lack of ability, I wanted to do well in dance, and was slowly growing to love it. I spent the entire summer after my first season training. Each day I would practice for hours, even while I was at summer camp. My hard work paid off, because after that summer I made Head Captain of the team and maintained the position all the way through my senior year of high-school.

Other than Elite Empire (the dance team), I have also been coaching dance since I was 15 years old. After our previous coach left, I took over the team and have been a head coach ever since. I choreograph and teach a large majority of the dances our team uses. We compete multiple times per year, often taking home many awards. Our team has won over 25 trophies during my time as a coach.

At Howard I have spent much of my time participating in Chango and 1OAK. Chango is the Afro-latin organization on campus, and I have had the opportunity to explore dance styles such as Cumbia, Bachata, and Salsa through the dance team "Rumba Del Valle. 1OAK is Howard's K-Pop dance team, where I have had the opportunity to participate in many different dance covers.
